First Look: Colt CBX Tac Hunter Rifle

Colt has just unveiled a new bolt-action rifle with a modern stock and modern features: the new Colt CBX Tac Hunter. The CBX Tac Hunter will have a retail price of $1,000 and is available in the industry’s two most popular short action centerfire rifle chamberings, .308 Win. and 6.5 Creedmoor. 

Like the original Colt CBX bolt action rifle that debuted a year ago, the new CBX Tac Hunter uses a Remington 700-pattern push feed action with a 60-degree bolt throw. A two-position tang safety on the rear right side of the receiver is also standard, while the receiver itself is drilled and tapped to accept Remington 700-pattern scope rings or scope bases. Like with many other rifles in this category, the standard trigger is user adjustable with a trigger pull weight from  2.5 to 5 pounds. Since the new Tac Hunter is intended to be carried in the field, it is equipped with a lighter contour barrel to save weight and reduce strain on the shooter. The Tac Hunter’s stock has a contemporary profile with a vertical stock wrist/grip and a high comb that makes it easy to align the eye with a riflescope. It is also outfitted with traditional stock swivels for adding a sling or other accessory.
