First Look: Wilson Combat NULA 20S Rifle
Wilson Combat has just launched a new ultra lightweight bolt action hunting rifle with an intermediate action, the Wilson Combat NULA Model 20S. Sometimes known as “mini actions,” bolt action rifles with an intermediate length action like the NULA 20S handle centerfire bottlenecked rifle cartridges that are shorter than the standard .243 or .308 Win rounds. Wilson Combat reams their NULA 20S barrels to accept .223 Rem. (.223 Wylde chamber), .350 Legend, .300 HAM’R and .300 BLK. From the get-go, the Wilson Combat NULA (New Ultra Light Arms) system was created to bring hunters the lightest possible field gun by combining Wilson Combat’s decades-long industry experience in gun making with modern manufacturing techniques and industrial materials. Both standard and intermediate action NULA rifles strive to print sub one-inch groups with quality ammunition while weighing between four to five pounds, as lighter weight can become an asset when hunting or traversing through rugged and technical terrain, especially on extended hunts.
The Wilson Combat NULA 20S’ action is based on the tried and true Remington 700 pattern. Receivers are fully matched and EDM machine cut from 4140 bar stock. As the Rem 700 pattern is extremely versatile when attaching triggers, these rifles include a Timney Elite Hunter trigger with a pull weight between 2.75 to 3.25 pounds. Wilson Combat affixes a button rifled and threaded 416R stainless steel that they not only hone but double stress relieve.
