Boker Magnum Enki is a Small Knife Outfitted with Big Ergonomic Features
Our focus on recent news from the Boker Magnum line continues with a look at the Enki. This is an interesting release that takes an unusual tack with the “ergonomic EDC fixed blade” category.
You will have just 2.28 inches of cutting edge on the Enki but, with the way the blade is designed, you’ll have maximum control over every millimeter. Its forward finger choil is positively enormous, angling upward from the base of the handle across more than half the width of the blade. In addition to pure control, this choil competently keeps the fingers off the live edge. So, although the Enki is small, it could be a solid choice for intenser push cutting (like working with wood) where it is tantamount that your fingers stay put.
That choil is a major ergonomic feature on the Enki, but it is not the only one. Designer Engelbert Czaja gave his non-karambit knife a karambit-style finger ring. Come to think of it, the finger ring really has spread beyond the bounds of the karambit this year, and it’s easy to see why, especially on smaller knives like the Enki: it’s a huge ergonomic boon, and doesn’t need as much horizontal real estate as “regular” handle length would for similar benefits.
Of course, there is regular handle here too – located right in between the finger ring and finger choil. There are no fireworks here, just a compact, mild, loose arching shape, with contoured Micarta scales laid on top. These scales (literally) round out the Enki’s ergonomic profile, offering up raw comfort alongside the more specialized features in front and behind them. The Enki comes with a Kydex sheath and it weighs 3.67 oz.
The Enki is available now.
