New Victorinox Series Features Blade Lock, Pocket Clip

Victorinox is making a bold, modern push with the new Alox Refined Collection. This series, consisting of three models, features not only a brand new look, but some modern features that are not common in the Victorinox catalog.

As with most Victorinox models, the differences between the Refined Collection knives – the OneFold, Synergy, and Synergy X – comes down to what tools they each contain; but the defining features, the elements that make the Refined collection refined, are present on the whole family, as is the presence of aluminum oxide, or Alox, scales – one of the signature materials in the Victorinox lineup.

What are these new features? The most obvious one is the way those Alox scales look: rather than the textured “griddle” look across the entire surface, the Refined Collection scales feature regions with a brushed finish, and multiple cutouts that give a little glimpse into the folding mechanisms underneath. The second new feature is the presence of a locking leaf for the main blade on all three Refined Collection models. Modern knife users do like a locking blade – and they also like pocket clips, which is third and final Refined refinement each of these new tools benefits from.

Onto the differences in the models themselves. The OneFold is super simple, with the blade being the only tool present. The Synergy is the middle-tier model, with a considerable expansion to its toolbelt: in addition to the blade, it has the nail file/narrow driver, bottle opener/flat head driver, and a new box opener tool that appears to be exclusive to the Refined Collection. Finally we have the Synergy X which, if you know your Victorinox nomenclature, you will understand to have a pair of spring-loaded scissors in addition to the standard Synergy tool suite.

The Refined Collection models are available now.
