Civivi brought a pretty impressive piece to Blade Show West. This is the Airy Peak, a new fixed blade with a hearty blade length and an impressive, sweeping profile.
Trailing point/Persian blades seem to be enjoying a bit of a revival this year. Not on the scale of other blade shapes, but this dramatic variant on the clip blade concept has certainly been more prevalent in 2024 than in the years past. On the Airy Peak, we see Civivi take a crack at it, and they’ve delivered up a 6-inch, classically-appointed rendition of the form. Without unnecessary severity to the trail of the point, the Airy Peak looks ready to live up to its name, working merrily through demanding outdoors chores.
It isn’t just about the blade though, of course. The profile’s proficiency is underwritten by the presence of Nitro-V – which is itself seeing a lot of circulation this year in general, but especially within Civivi’s catalog. Given the company’s penchant for affordable knives that don’t skimp on performance, Nitro-V’s recent streak over at Civivi HQ makes perfect sense. Comparable in many ways to AEB-L, Nitro-V, as the name would indicate, adds in some Nitrogen to that proven formula to help with alloying. The result is a well-behaved steel across the board, one that can be maintained – and appreciated – by both laymen and sharpening mavens alike.
The handle keeps its grooves and curves to the minimum while delivering a handsome, fighter-style profile. So far we’ve seen the Airy Peak with wooden scales (probably Civivi’s go-to guibourtia wood) and black G-10 scales; it looks like both versions come with the same Kydex sheath. The company says the overall length for the Airy Peak is 11 inches.
