First Look: Heckler & Koch CC9 Pistol

Heckler & Koch USA recently launched a polymer-frame, striker-fired “micro nine” 9mm pistol, the new HK CC9. Although the new Heckler & Koch USA CC9 is similar in form and function to many of its peers, what sets this handgun apart is that during development, HK subjected all CC9 test prototypes to the same reliability and durability standards as its full-size, duty-oriented pistols like the HK P30 and the HK VP9. HK subjected this everyday-carry-oriented piece to such stringent standards meant that its design and development cycle took longer as the engineering team tweaked things according to the results. The German company claims that over 750,000 rounds of 9mm ammunition were fired during the development cycle of the HK CC9 before it was finally brought to market.

The HK CC9 is the smallest handgun ever designed and manufactured by HK, a company that rose from the ashes of the old Mauser-Obendorf factory after World War Two in West Germany. This 9mm double stack pistol has an optics-ready slide with a Shield RMSc/Holosun K footprint that fits the industry’s most popular “micro” red-dot sights. A pair of XS Sights tritium night sights are also included by default for standard shooting without any slide mounted optics. The pistol has a 3.3-inch barrel and a standard magazine capacity of either 10 or 12 rounds (depending on local state laws).
