First Look: RCBS 22 ARC Reloading Dies

RCBS has just unveiled two new two-piece die sets for the 22 ARC rifle cartridge launched by Hornady in 2023. The first set of RCBS dies is a small-base taper crimp die set that includes a small-base size die and a taper crimp seating die. Using these two styles of dies makes it easier to reload rifle cartridges meant to be fired in semi-automatic rifles to ensure reliable feeding. First, the small-base size die reshapes the rifle case in order to guarantee that it will fit correctly into a semi-auto rifle chamber. The taper crimp die mechanically locks the bullet to the case mouth to secure it in place and prevent the bullet from shifting as a semi-automatic rifle is stripping the loaded cartridge from the magazine and sending it into the chamber. These types of dies are also recommended for handloaders that use progressive reloading presses.

The second set of RCBS 22 ARC dies includes a more traditional, full-length sizing die and bullet seating die that works better with both bolt-action rifles and single-stage presses.

Both RCBS 22 ARC rifle die sets include dies made with industry standard 7/8 by 14 inch threads and RCBS’ proprietary steel material. These dies work with the RCBS #32 shell holder and prices for the sets start at $43.99.

22 ARC is a modern cartridge developed by Hornady with the goal of bringing ballistic performance similar to the performance of the classic .22-250 Rem. varmint bottleneck-rifle cartridge to the modern AR-15 pattern rifle. Unlike that classic varmint cartridge, the new 22 ARC was designed with the latest in low drag and efficient projectiles such as the Hornady 62-grain ELD VT bullet, providing extended range and more on-target energy.
