Fans of Gavko production collaborations have been eating good this year, and there’s more to come. A month after the release of the We Knife Co. Epaulette, another Gavko piece is setting forth under the Civivi banner: the reverse tanto EDC Sixgill.
Gavac is a versatile designer, capable of working in a lot of different styles and modes, but the Gavko Knives house style is one of sharp angles, imposing geometry, and bold blade shapes. The Sixgill certainly checks the last box but, compared to many other Gavac joints, it’s curvier, smoother, with softer lines. In fact, it looks like the smoothed-out sibling to the aforementioned Epaulette.
Like that knife, the Sixgill’s blade is an upswept reverse tanto, measuring 3.4 inches long. Naturally, the materials have been adjusted to the Civivi line standards, so the Sixgill’s blade steel is the versatile, durable, user-friendly Nitro-V formula. In the cost-conscious everyday carry scenario that looks to be the Sixgill’s natural habitat, Nitro-V is a heavy hitter thanks to its balanced characteristics and no glaring weaknesses.
The Sixgill handle goes a humpbacked profile not unlike the Epaulette’s, but without the hard lines; everything here is sweeps and curves, with the exception of the pointed tail end, which is where the reversible deep carry pocket clip is attached. As we expect from Civivi these days, there are several scale options for the Sixgill, as well as a guibourtia wood-scaled model with Damascus blade.
