Kombou’s Prydwen Takes its Name from a Famous Virtual Vessel

The Bestech Excentric debuted recently, a collaboration model between Toni Tietzel of TNT Knives and Grzegorz Grabarski, AKA Kombou. Well, Grabarski has been a busy man, and has another Bestech knife with his name on it out now – this time a solo effort called the Prydwen.

The ongoing partnership between Bestech and Kombou are one of those reliable pairings between company and designer in the industry that can be counted on to regularly turn out interesting work, alongside other dynamic duos like Real Steel/Jakub Wieczorkiewicz or KA-BAR/Ethan Becker. Grabarski started his path to knife making as an enthusiast like the rest of us, and took it to the next level with designs of his own – now he has quite the production portfolio under his belt. It’s quite a menagerie as well, with lots of different sizes, shapes, and materials at play.

The timascus/Damasteel model

Grabarski likes to make references with the name and style of his knives, and evidently is a bit of a gamer as well. The Prydwen, which actually beats the Excentric to the market, takes its name from the airship used by the Brotherhood of Steel in Fallout 4. Its tapered snubnose modified wharncliffe looks a bit aerodynamic, although it’s meant to spend time in the hand, not the air. At 3.68 inches long, it’s knocking on the door of “large EDC” status, and with MagnaCut steel on board should deliver performance to match its specifications.

Grabarski likes his handles lean and mean, and the Prydwen’s tapered, ornate handle affords a comfy full grip without being any bigger than it needs to. The handle materials are a ribbed titanium scales with a centered bolster/inlay combination piece made from carbon fiber (on the MagnaCut versions) or Timascus (on the Damasteel blade model). The Prydwen weighs 3.84 oz. and comes with a sculpted titanium pocket clip.

The Prydwen has taken flight and is available now.
