TOPS Adds Third Version to Frog Market Family

Right before their recent hurricane of new knives, TOPS released one that shouldn’t be left behind in terms of coverage. This is the Frog Market Special Mini, a tinified take on the outdoors-oriented food prep knife from some years back.

The Frog Market pattern has been around for quite a while in the TOPS family. TOPS designers take inspiration from all over the world for their designs and the idea for the Frog Market special came from the particular, curving butcher knives that Vietnamese fishmongers used to prepare their goods.

The knife obviously struck a chord with outdoorsmen, and its success led to a scaled up model being introduced in 2017. That version came with a 7.5-inch blade; the standard clocked in at 5.25 inches; now we have the Mini, which brings its edge length down to 3.25 inches. It doesn’t lose its food prep chops in this smaller configuration, but obviously excels in particular at the detail-work side of food prep.

In addition, the reduction in length makes it possible to consider this FMS as an EDC knife, or a backup outdoors blade in general. TOPS even notes that, with its compact overall length of 6 inches, the FMS Mini can be pressed into duty as a neck knife. No matter how you choose to carry it, it comes with a pancake-style Kydex sheath and weighs a mere 1.3 oz. on its own, 2.7 oz. with the sheath.

The FMS Mini is available now.
