Get a Free 10mm Pistol? Model 2020 Gear Up

Since its founding, the Geneseo-based Springfield Armory has earned a reputation for offering extremely high-quality firearms for a wide range of disciplines and applications. And now Springfield is offering an amazing deal for its fans. If you’re looking to purchase a qualifying Springfield Armory bolt-action rifle, you have the option of also getting a powerful 10mm pistol worth nearly $700 to back it up — totally for free. But more on that in a moment.

First, let’s discuss what brought us here in the first place.

The Path

While the M14-based M1A rifle and its extensive line of 1911 pistols helped establish the groundwork for this, the company’s offerings have expanded greatly beyond those foundational products in the following decades.

These offerings include such remarkable firearms such as the EDC-ready Hellcat and Hellcat Pro 9mms, the 1911 DS Prodigy “double-stack 9mms, P.35-based SA-35 series, the XD and XD-M family of pistols, the Echelon series, the expansive SAINT lines of AR-based rifles and pistols, the Hellion 5.56mm bullpup, and the roller-delayed 9mm Kuna, to name just a few.

Beyond that, Springfield has not rested on its laurels when it comes to its M1A and 1911 offerings. While the M1A line may have started with what we now know as the “Standard Issue” closely modeled after the M14 service rifle, it is now offered in a wide range of variants. These include the “Loaded” and “Loaded Precision” models, the M1A Scout Squad models with 18” barrels and forward scout scope mounts, and the ultra-short “SOCOM 16” versions with 16” barrels.

At the same time, the 1911 line has grown exponentially. While it might have started with a 5”-barreled “Mil-Spec”-style model, it now includes a dizzying array of variants for a wide range of applications. In addition to the Mil-Spec, you can also purchase a two-tone Ronin, a downsized Enhanced Micro Pistol (EMP) Ronin built specifically around the 9mm round, the classic yet enhanced Garrison, the radically styled Emissary, the rail-equipped Operator and — of course — the Tactical Response Pistol (TRP). These 1911’s are offered in a range of chamberings, sizes, and — in many cases — capable of mounting optics through the Agency Optic System (AOS).

A New Direction

While many of Springfield’s products over the decades were easily applicable to hunting applications, it has not been until more recent years that it has started offering dedicated products for that category — which brings us to the Model 2020.

Released in — you probably guess it — 2020, the Model 2020 is a family of U.S.-made bolt-action hunting rifles designed to offer custom-grade features and accuracy at production rifle prices. In fact, all Model 2020 rifles with a .75 MOA accuracy guarantee — for a three-shot group at 100 yards with quality match-grade factory ammunition, in the hands of a skilled shooter.

The heart of the rifles, the action, features an integral machined recoil lug, electrical discharge machining (EDM) of the bolt lug raceways for precision dimensions and smooth cycling, enlarged ejection port, sliding extractor and a hybrid dual-plane feed ramp. This is paired up with a TriggerTech trigger adjustable for pull weights from 2.5-5 lbs.

The initial offering in the Model 2020 family at launch, the Model 2020 Waypoint series of rifles is offered in both short- and long-action models, featuring carbon fiber stocks from AG Composites for lightweight yet impressive strength. They are also pillar-bedded. To further keep weight to a minimum, the Waypoints are available with lightweight carbon fiber-wrapped barrels (although fluted stainless steel barrels are also available) with threaded muzzles and topped off with an SA Radial Brake.

Chamberings of the Model 2020 Waypoint include .300 PRC, .300 Win. Mag., .308 Win., 6.5 Creedmoor, 6mm Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, 7mm PRC and 7mm Rem. Mag. All Model 2020 Waypoint rifles feed from a detachable AICS-pattern magazine. MSRP ranges from $1,995 to $2,335.

The next addition to the Model 2020 line was the Model 2020 Redline, an extremely compact short-action variant offered in .308 Win. and 6.5 Creedmoor. These suppressor-ready rifles feature a minimalist Grayboe Trekker stock and are outfitted with a 16” or 20” carbon fiber-wrapped barrel.

The Model 2020 Redlines’ Grayboe Trekker stock deserves special mention. Radically recessed and cutaway for maximum weight reduction while simultaneously retaining extreme strength and rigidity, the stock also features a vertically oriented grip as well as an adjustable length-of-pull buttpad system. Adjustable in .25” increments, removable inserts beneath the recoil pad allow for a length of pull of 13.25-14.25”, and also up to 16” with additional spacers. Additionally, there is a handy integral bubble level/thumb rest to the rear of the action.

As with the Model 2020 Waypoint, the Redline features an SA Radial Brake on the threaded muzzle and features an AICS-pattern detachable magazine. MSRP of all the Model 2020 Redlines is $1,795.

Next to be released in the line was the Model 2020 Boundary, a more traditional take on the concept, but still featuring cutting-materials and design. Like the Model 2020 Waypoint, the Boundary is offered in short- and long-action versions. It also features either carbon fiber-wrapped or fluted stainless steel barrels with threaded muzzles and a carbon fiber stock for light weight. However, that stock is a bit different in configuration.

Designed to offer the sleek lines of a classic hunting rifle, the Boundary employs a traditionally configured AG Sportsman stock from AG Composites. To further complete the package, the boundary feeds from an internal magazine with a robust hinged floorplate design. The result is a bolt-action rifle with classic lines, yet ultra-modern construction, features and performance.

Chamberings for the Model 2020 Boundary include .300 PRC, .300 Win. Mag., .308 Win., 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, 7mm PRC and 7mm Rem. Mag. As with all Model 2020 rifles, the Boundary adheres to the .75 MOA accuracy guarantee — along with the Redlines and Waypoints. MSRP for the Model 2020 Boundary ranges from $1,995 to $2,295.

The line has continued to grow, with unique models like the Model 2020 Heatseeker chassis rifle being added, further expanding the breadth and capabilities of this remarkable series.

The Opportunity

So, it’s safe to say that buying one of these Model 2020 rifles would be a sound purchase for anyone looking for a custom-grade rifle at a production rifle cost. But what if Springfield Armory were to sweeten the deal a bit?

This brings us to the topic at hand today — the new Model 2020 Gear Up program. Starting on April 15th, 2026, this program applies to anyone who purchases a new qualifying Model 2020 rifle (select models within the Model 2020 line, while supplies last, and restrictions apply).

Springfield Armory XD-M Elite 10mm black pistol
The XD-M Elite 4.5” OSP 10mm features an optics-cut slide that can accept available plates for mounting today’s most popular optics.

What you get with that purchase as part of this Gear Up program is a totally free black XD-M Elite 4.5” OSP 10mm pistol, which has an MSRP of $674. With that, you have a powerful and capable 16+1 capacity 10mm pistol to pair up with your brand-new bolt-action rifle.

For those who may not be familiar with the XD-M Elite 4.5” OSP 10mm, it is the latest and most modern refinement of the XD series of pistols. The original XD pistol helped set the standard for feature-rich, striker-fired pistols nearly 25 years ago. Ruggedly durable with impressive performance, they were an immediate hit.

Following the XD was the newer XD-M family, which built on the XD’s foundation of performance, while adding features such as interchangeable backstraps and other enhancements.

An upgraded and enhanced version of the XD-M (which in itself was the next generation of the original XD pistol), the XD-M Elite family brought whole host of new performance features and increased capacity to the XD-M platform.

One of the most notable enhancements to the design is the Match Enhanced Trigger Assembly (META), developed to offer one of the finest striker-fired pistol factory triggers available. In addition to its flat face and clean break, it also features an integral overtravel stop.

An ambidextrous slide stop brought full ambidextrous controls to the pistols, and the slide serrations were deepened and widened for enhanced grasping for slide manipulations. In addition, all Elites employ extended magazines for increased round counts, which matches up with removable extended and flared magazine wells for ultra-fast reloads.

Ultimate Back-Up

The 10mm variant of the XD-M Elite, and the one you get as part of this Gear Up package, offers hunters and outdoorsmen an outstanding defensive pistol for addressing both two- and four-legged threats they might face while out in the wild.

In a tense backcountry moment, a hiker relies on the power of the 10mm round for immediate protection against a dangerous wildlife encounter.

The pistol comes with two stainless steel-bodied magazines that hold 16 rounds each, and it features a hammer-forged 4.5” Melonite-coated match grade barrel. Weight of the pistol empty is 31 oz., and the overall length is 7.6”. The Melonite-coated slide is topped off with a fiber optic front sight and a Tactical Rack U-Dot rear sight.

The black polymer frame sports an accessory rail on the dustcover and interchangeable backstraps for customizing the grip to fit you perfectly. Three backstraps are included with the pistol — small, medium and large.

The Springfield XD-M Elite 10mm is an outstanding addition to your hunting rig, and a great opportunity when acquired with a Model 2020.

In addition, it is an Optical Sight Pistol (OSP) variant, which means it can readily fit a wide range of today’s most popular optics through the use of available adapter plates you can purchase from the Springfield Armory Store.

The result is a highly adaptable and utterly capable 10mm pistol with impressive capacity ready for defense deep in the wilds while you are out with your Model 2020 rifle.

Closing the Deal

If you were considering purchasing a qualifying Model 2020 model (or recently have, after the April 15th launch date of the program), you definitely should take advantage of this deal worth $674. That is one heck of a purchase incentive if you ask me.

At the time of publication, this offer is scheduled to run through August 31st, 2026. Anyone who purchases a qualifying Model 2020 will be able to access this Gear Up offer through an online redemption program, simply providing proof of purchase and the rifle’s serial number. Once approved, the XD-M Elite pistol will be shipped to the same dealer/FFL location where the rifle was originally purchased. Of course, this applies to select models within the Model 2020 line, is good while supplies last, and restrictions do apply. Also, this cannot be used in conjunction with any other Springfield Armory promotion.

In addition, there will also be a Gear Up Now variant of the Model 2020 Gear Up that will have the complete package of rifle and pistol available at the day of purchase at select FFL locations. This will not require any redemption process, but rather have the buyer take possession of both firearms at the time of purchase. That should appeal to those of us who like immediate gratification!

Conclusion

Purchasing a Model 2020 already offered an amazing value. You’re getting a rifle with custom-grade features and performance (and a .75-MOA guarantee) as well as cutting-edge design and materials for an incredible price. Now, with this new Gear Up deal, you are getting a highly capable 10mm pistol to pair with a qualifying rifle, and one worth nearly $700. I know I’m sold!
